What type of werewolf was professor Lupin?
At age four, Lupin became afflicted with lycanthropy after being bitten by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback. Every full moon an afflicted person transforms into a wolf-like creature, and, like a rabid dog, is unable to control their actions.
Remus was turned by Fenrir Greyback, who sought revenge on his father for his unkind words about the werewolf community. The attack took place just before his fifth birthday, and although Lyall burst in and saved his son from death, the attack left Remus as a werewolf himself.
Sirius was an animagus and was able to transform into a big black dog, (a Grim) which is an omen of death, at will. He, along with James Potter and Peter Pettigrew became Animagus to help Remus Lupin with his transformations.
Because he was in his dog form while fighting with Remus. In order to protect Harry, Ron, and Hermione from Lupin, Sirius turned back into a dog. Werwolf can turn a human into a werewolf by biting them, but not animals. They were only dangerous to humans.
Bill is viciously mauled by the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback. Fortunately, as Fenrir was not transformed at the time, Bill did not become a werewolf, though Madam Pomfrey is unable to completely heal his face, and he remains permanently scarred.
He took a brutal werewolf attack in his stride like an absolute champ. When Bill was mauled by Fenrir Greyback, he was scarred for life.
The moon represents Lupin's transformation into a creature he cannot control. Lupin is afraid of his own destructive potential. Neville Professor Snape Neville fears Professor Snape who treats him rudely with sarcastic comments.
Remus Lupin
A werewolf, Lupins biggest fear is a full moon, or rather the consequences of a full moon. Lupin fears the loss of control after his transformation and the damage and destruction his wolf form is capable of.
Snape hears Lupin admit this while hiding under the Invisibility Cloak and also hears Lupin explain that he was not part of Sirius's joke. Snape still thinks Lupin is helping Sirius, however, and attacks Lupin. He then lets slip that Lupin is a werewolf the next morning.
It is revealed in the climax of Prisoner of Azkaban that Professor Lupin is a werewolf. He turns into a werewolf at every full moon and only retains his human mind while transformed by drinking the Wolfsbane Potion prepared for him by Snape.
